Prerequisites

Medicines

In India almost every medicinal drug, syrup & injections are readily available, and the prices are quite affordable. You can buy them from the medical stores or hospital pharmacies.

**Note – Brand, Names & Manufacturer of the medicinal drugs may differ & required prescription from doctor to get correct medicine.

Painkillers like Paracetamol, Diclofenac, Ibuprofen & Naproxen

  • IV based painkillers or Injections are prescribed by doctor during the Kshar Sutra surgery.
  • Oral painkiller, anti-acids & anti-biotics are prescribed by doctor before discharge.
  • Some people prefer to take painkillers during the thread change.
  • Ibuprofen – Used to reduce inflammation & swelling.
  • Paracetamol – Also known as acetaminophen, Pain reliever and fever reducer.
  • Prescriptions for any medicines, especially narcotics.

Thermometer

  • You can bring your own thermometer or buy it from any pharmacy in India. This may require checking your body temperature if you have any fever after surgery or due to viral/bacterial infection during your visit.

Sterilized Cotton Gauze & Pads

  • You will need a lot of cotton gauze & pads to do daily dressings (Up to 4x times a day), depends on wound size & quantity of discharge. They are widely available in hospital pharmacies & quite affordable.
  • Available pads size in India (10*10 cm and 10*20 cm) – Steripad
  • Available gauze size in India (5*5 cm & 7.5*7.5 cm)
  • Medical or Surgical Tapes
  • 100% Cotton or Natural Feminine Pads (Specially for female patients)

Other General Medicines

  • Electrolyte Drinks like Gastrolyte, Emergen-C or Pedialyte
  • Antibiotic Ointment like betadine or neomycin
  • Eye drops to keep the eyes hydrated.
  • Probiotics & Charcoal tablets in case your stomach get upset.
  • Anti-diarrhea medicines like Metronidazole or Norfloxacin.
  • Supplements like Vitamins & Magnesium which are good for muscle relaxation and help with sleep.

Personal Hygiene

In India almost all types of personal hygiene items are readily available, and the prices very affordable. You can buy them from the malls, supermarkets or local shops
  • Toilet Paper: Although hotels will refill the daily needs of toilet paper, but you can buy them also at any supermarket in India.
  • Bottled or Mineral Water : Most hotels & service apartments provide free bottled water, but you can buy them at any supermarket or local shops. Popular brands are Bisleri, Kinley, Aquafina & Kingfisher.
  • Body Shampoo & Soap
  • Hair Shampoo & Conditioners
  • Extra Cotton Towels (Microfiber which are compact & dries quickly)
  • Baby wipes / Disinfecting wipes and Sitz Bathtub
  • Extra Bed liners or bedsheets for your personal hygiene.
  • If you are a foreigner, avoid drinking tap water. Instead you can buy bottled water (Bisleri, Aquafina, Kinley & Kingfisher) which is sold in the local shops or restaurants.
  • India has large varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables which can be purchased in markets or stores. It is good to rinse them thoroughly before eating.

Electronics & Communication

For travel in India, we highly recommend getting a local sim card on arrival, that way you have the ability to make phone calls especially from the moment you arrive at Bangalore. In few dollars you can have unlimited calls and plenty of data access to cover the term of your travel. Preferred Telco’s are Jio & Airtel which are affordable & have good network coverage.

  • Power board / bar (Which have multiple outlets) **Put inside carry-on luggage.
  • Supply voltage power is 220 V. The majority of hotels in Bangalore offer their guests to rent a special adapter for various electrical appliances. You can also easily purchase such adapters in specialty stores.

  • You will go through a lot of underwear, bring more than you need

  • Some places require close-toed shoes for men

  • Cosmetic mirror : Good for checking on your surgery wound

  • Ear Plugs - Bangalore is quite noisy.
  • Eye Masks
  • Warm Socks, Travel Pillows, Pillowcase
  • TSA approved suitcase lock
  • Passport & Driving License : Take photos of your passport or make extra copies in case you lose.
  • Two copies of e-visa https://indianvisaonline.gov.in - Keep one in your carry-on in case your luggage is lost.
  • Passport photos (At least 10 copies)
  • Sunscreen, Sunglasses & Sun hat /cap
  • Mosquito repellent and Hand sanitizer
  • Dust mask : Not a surgical mask

BANKING NEEDS

You will need an India-based credit or debit card along with India phone number for online shopping, retail and taxi operators.

ICICI Prepaid Bank Card

Indian Rupee denominated prepaid travel card is a perfect currency management solution for all foreign nationals / NRIs visiting India. It is a secure and convenient way to carry money in India. Inbound foreign tourists and NRIs visiting India can easily exchange their foreign currency for Indian Rupee Travel Card.
The Indian Rupee Travel Card can be used for making online purchases (E-com), shop at merchant establishments/outlets (Point Of Sale) or for withdrawing cash from ATMs. It is safer than carrying cash and facilitates convenient usage.

TransferWise Card

You can sign up for this card before you leave home and bring it with you. You should be able to use this with Uber.

Charles SCHWAB

Open the checking account with Charles Schwab and transfer the money into that account for INDIA trip. Withdraw cash from any ATMs in Bangalore, India using the “Charles Schwab” debit card & it will not incur any foreign transaction fees or charges.

Capital One

US Visitors can apply for “Capital One Quicksilver” Visa credit card and use for most of the purchases overseas. You won’t need to pay a transaction fee when making purchases outside of the United States.

Benefits – Can be used for Uber India & Other purchases with no foreign transaction fees.

Bank of America International Travel Rewards Card

This credit card US visitors can sign up before leaving for India. It’s important to remember, even with an international card some merchants will refuse payment methods that are not India-based.

Currency Exchange

The best way to exchange currency is in special exchange offices or banks. While exchanging currency, you should take into consideration not only current exchange rate, but also the amount of the commission charged. Import and export of the local currency is strictly prohibited. You should also not forget to declare cash if the sum of money you have exceeds 10,000 U.S. dollars.

Religious Customs

Visitors should not forget that the locals have great respect towards various religious customs. Travelers should also show respect to the rules set in the city. Above all this concerns clothing, which should be as closed and neutral as possible. You also are not recommended to behave noisily in the streets and in the public places of the city. Drinking alcohol is allowed in restaurants and bars only.

Foreigner's Safety

Despite the fact that Bangalore is considered quiet city, travelers are not recommended to go to its remote areas alone. Tourists will also need to be careful in crowded places, markets and public transport as they have an opportunity to become a victim of pickpockets.
