Ayurveda is the ancient Indian medical science, which propagates healthy mind, healthy body and healthy soul. ‘Swasthasya swasthya rakshanam, Aaturasya vikara prashamanam’ – is the whole motto of Ayurveda. This means, to maintain and rejuvenate a person’s health, and to cure the disease conditions of the patients. Ayurveda classifies the entire knowledge into 8 branches that help in achieving the above-mentioned motto. One among those 8 branches of Ayurveda is ‘Shalya Tantra’ – the branch that deals with all the surgical ailments and procedures.
Acharya Sushrutha, was the earliest sage/doctor/surgeon of Ayurveda. He is known as the ‘Father of Surgery’. Sushrutha samhita is the treasure of knowledge authored by Acharya Sushrutha.
