Kshara Sutra Procedure

How to begin the “Journey towards Healing”

  • Make an Appointment with doctor before visiting his clinic.
  • You will be referred for the ultrasound scan & blood test.
  • The doctor will review the reports & schedule the day for surgery.
  • Choose the type of anesthesia you preferred like GA, SA or LA.
  • Doctor will prescribe you Ayurveda medicines, painkillers & order sitz bath.
  • You may need to visit the clinic daily for checkup & wound dressing.
  • Please check with the doctor, if you have any doubts or need more clarification about the procedure, treatment timeline etc., because answers to these questions may vary for individual person.

Things To Know

  • You will be advised not to eat or drink anything at least for 12hrs. Before surgery.
  • They will shave you before surgery. Some people like to minimize this by shaving beforehand.
  • If the epidural/spinal anesthesia is used (for most it is), then you will have an enema during the surgery preparation.
  • If spinal anesthesia is used, they insert a nerve block as well. This is to help with pain. For most people, they feel little pain after surgery for 24–48 hours. After the 24–48 hours wears off, the pain can be more substantial.
  • If spinal anesthesia is used, you are not allowed to get up for at least four hours after surgery, nor can you use a pillow. Staff will tell you this and make sure that you do not do either thing. This is to prevent negative side effects of the anesthesia that can be caused by getting up/having your head tilted forward. It can cause massive headaches for weeks, so just follow what the nurses (sisters) say. Lay down for as long as possible, and do not prop yourself up for too long.
  • They will have you shower prior to surgery with a red bucket full of hot water. If it is too hot, add some cooler water from the shower. Wash your entire body, head to toe. Use your towel to dry off.
  • The nurses typically give injections for pain via IV or injection prior to leaving the hospital.

Things To Bring

  • You will need some clothes (something to sleep in if you are staying the night before surgery, and something to wear when leaving the hospital)
  • From surgery preparation to right before you leave, you will be provided a gown by the hospital
  • Please bring your own food and bottled water.
  • After surgery, you will be advised not to eat, but it is good to have something in case for you & your attendant.
  • There are some grocery & snacks shops nearby if you wish to get food from there.
  • You can also order the food from an app such as “Swiggy” or “Zomato” and get them delivered in front of the hospital.
  • Phone charger with adapter.
  • Cotton Towel to use after shower.
  • TRUS (Sono fistulogram) scan report
